Princess Rajyashree Kumari

Rajyashree Kumari of Bikaner: Born on 4th June 1953 in Bombay, daughter of His Highness Dr. Karni Singh, Maharaja of Bikaner and Maharani Sushila Kumari, granddaughter of Maharaja Sadul Singhji and great granddaughter of Maharaja Ganga Singhji of Bikaner. Educated at the Convent of Jesus & Mary, New Delhi followed by Lady Sri Ram College for Women, New Delhi.

Her great grandfather His Highness Maharaja Ganga Singhji of Bikaner was a great reformer, builder and an international figure of his time. Her grandfather, His Highness Maharaja Sadul Singhji of Bikaner, was the first prince to accede his State into the India Union at the time of Independence and thereby provided the important historic lead to all others to follow suit and which led to the creation of a United India.
Her father His Highness Dr. Karni Singh, Maharaja of Bikaner, served as an independent Member of Parliament from 1952-1977 for an uninterrupted period of 25 years in the Lok Sabha- the elected House of People.
She is involved in Projects concerning up gradation and refurbishments of the Lallgarh Palace hotel. She commissioned new purpose made building for Sri Sadul Museum and is presently setting up the Museum in the new building. .


She has authored three books titled “THE LALLGARH PALACE – HOME OF THE MAHARAJAS OF BIKANER”, “THE MAHARAJAS OF BIKANER” and "Palace of Clouds - A Memoir".

She has set up a dedicated archival section at the Lallgarh Palace for preservation of old historical material such as Sanskrit manuscripts, Bhais, photo albums etc and also to enable the research scholars from India and abroad to carryout research.
She founded Rajyashree Kumari of Bikaner Religious and charitable trust in 1975, which provides scholarships to young schoolgirls for higher education. She founded Maharaja Dr. Karni Singhji Memorial Foundation in the sacred memory of her late father in 1999, which provides the Paediatric department of the P.B.M hospital at Bikaner with vital life saving equipments, provides support to young children with lifesaving surgeries etc.
She is the Chairperson of Public Charitable Trusts set up by late Maharaja Dr. Karni Singhji that carryout numerous philanthropic works for the underprivileged population of Bikaner region.

She is life member of the Indian National Trust for art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), member of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), India, She is involved with projects to do with restoration and preservation of heritage properties and ancestral fort, palace and old cenotaphs.
Her hobbies are reading, sports, travelling and writing books on family history and the palace and fort.
Rajyashree Kumari has one daughter, Anupama Kumari, and a son Sajjan Sinh.
